Non-TRS MLAs feel ignored: BJP

- DC CORRESPONDENT HYDERABAD, MAY 13

The BJP has taken the GHMC battle to the Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan, accusing Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao of ignoring city MLAs and taking up various government programmes, including Swachh Hyderabad, involving only TRS legislators with an eye on the civic polls.

BJP legislators, led by president G. Kishan Reddy and BJP floor leader Dr K. Laxman, requested the Governor as custodian of the Constitution to instruct the CM and other Cabinet ministers to involve all MLAs belonging to Hyderabad, regardless of the party they belong to, in decision making process including Swachh Hyderabad.

The Governor promised to look into the matter, Mr Kishan Reddy and Dr Laxman said after the meeting.

“We have a feeling that the CM is deliberately excluding city MLAs because most of the MLAs are from non-TRS parties. With an eye on GHMC elections, the CM would like to ensure the visibility of TRS MLAs at the expense of elected MLAs of different parties,” the BJP alleged in a memorandum submitted to the Governor.

It added, “This is nothing but a mockery of democracy. What the CM has been doing is breach of the privileges of the members.”

BJP leaders complained to the Governor that GHMC was resorting to high handed collection of property taxes. “People of Hyderabad are suffering forcible collection of property taxes, traffic woes, drinking water shortage, housing for poor, drainage system. Poor and weaker sections are yet to get pattas, house sites and houses as promised by TRS,” the BJP alleged.

They also complained to the Governor that the CM was banking mostly on the advice of bureaucrats, be it cleaning of Hussainsagar, digging of new tank at Indira Park and building of auditorium and food courts at NTR stadium, skyscrapers around Hussainsagar, shifting of Secretariat among others.
