TRS eyes Revanth’s seat

Party looks to politically marginalise accused MLA

- DC CORRESPONDENT HYDERABAD, JULY 24

The TRS has set its eyes on the Kodangal Assembly constituency represented by Telugu Desam MLA, A. Revanth Reddy who is facing corruption charges in the cashfor-vote scam.

Th e party is adopting a twin strategy of wooing Congress and TD leaders in the constituency to marginalise Mr Revanth Reddy politically, and promising development to 1.8 lakh acres in the constituency.

Ever since Mr Revanth Reddy was released from jail on bail in the cash-for-vote-scam, the TRS has been eyeing TD and Congress leaders, and cadre in Kodangal.

Though he was caught red-handed on the charge of buying nominated MLA Stephenson in the MLC polls, he is still popular in the constituency.

Sources said irrigation minister, T. Harish Rao, has been entrusted with the job to lure Congress and TD leaders in Kodangal, besides other constituencies in Mahbubnagar, which have a strong TD presence.

On Friday, several TD and Congress leaders and cadre, besides local leaders in the constituency, joined the TRS in the presence of health minister Laxma Reddy and Mahbubnagar TRS president Shiva Kumar.

“TD and Congress leaders are joining TRS in the making of Bangaru Telangana. TD and Congress leaders in Mahbubnagar district are still playing into the hands of AP conspirators and trying to stall Palamuru-Ranga Reddy and other projects,” Mr Laxma Reddy alleged.

Mr Revanth Reddy, however, is unperturbed. “The people are on my side,” he said.
