No business in first week of monsoon Session
The first week of Parliament’s Monsoon Session was a complete washout as the Opposition remained unrelenting over its demand for Union minister Sushma Swaraj’s resignation and the government continued rejecting it.
As part of the government’s counter-offensive the BJP-led NDA on Friday staged a protest within the Parliament premises demanding action against Chief Ministers of two Congress-ruled states, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, who are embroiled in alleged scams, in response to the Congress’ demand that the CMs of BJPruled Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
In the Rajya Sabha no transaction of business took place for the fourth consecutive day while in the Lok Sabha high drama ensued after Congress MP Sushmita Dev apparently questioned why the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamul was keeping away from Opposition protests against the NDA and ruling BJP.
Trinamul’s Kalyan Banerjee reacted angrily at the questioning of the integrity of the Trinamul supremo.
All this transpired after the Lower House was adjourned for the day amidst uproar and slogan-shouting by Congress members and counter slogans from BJP members.
NDA members staged a protest in front of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in the Parliament premises.
The NDA placards read “Parliament should function” and “Shame Shame, scams and scams in Congress states”.
