Two NRIs who helped Qaeda did not visit city recently: Cops

Hyderabadi NRI brothers Yahya Farooq Mohammad and Ibrahim Zubair, who were booked by a United States district court for providing financial support to Al Qaeda, have not visited India in any recent years.

Stating this here, Intelligen­ce officials said the two were born in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and had their primary education there.

They were in Hyderabad for education for a few years, but they haven't come to Hyderabad for the last 10 years.

“They are from Hyderabad, their family is welleducat­ed and settled in Sharjah. For education, they had come to Hyderabad. Later, they left for the United States and did their higher education there. Farooq then moved to Dubai and started working with an MNC,” said an intelligen­ce official from Telangana.

Their father had passed away a few years ago, and mother, seriously ill, was brought to Hyderabad recently and is taken care of by her brother.

Officials said the two youths have no terror links in Hyderabad nor were they funding any terror activity here.

“After a brief inquiry, we have closed our probe here. The United States authoritie­s are proceeding with the case there.”

The two were indicted in the United States District Court of the Northern District of Ohio on one count of “conspiracy to provide and conceal material support and resources to terrorists”. FBI is investigat­ing the case.
