A WORTHY DEFINITIVE EDITION
Ori and the Blind Forest Definitive Edition exemplifies what a re-release should be; polish, improvements and new content. The improved version not only comes with some gameplay balances but also new content, making the upgrade well worth your money.
It is no secret that Ori and The Blind Forest was one of last year’s most beautiful games, however underneath that gorgeous audiovisual design lay an unforgiving beast that would push even the most hardcore gamers to the limit. While the original game was brutal to say the least, the Definitive Edition adds difficulty settings in hopes of making the game accessible to more gamers, a great move if you ask me. Not only that, Spirit wells now serve fast travel points, making backtracking for exploration a whole lot easier. You can also revisit saves after finishing the game, something that wasn’t an option before.
However, improvements aside, the Definitive Edition comes with some brand new content as well in the form of Blackroot Burrows, a completely new segment shrouded in darkness. While you must make your way through the darkness, players also get two new abilities, Dash and Lightburst to help take on the new environment. Some segments can get frustrating, but it improves as you go on.
All in all Ori and The Blind Forest Definitive Edition is a worthy re-release with some polish and new content making it a worthy revisit for fans of the original and the new difficulty settings might just make it an inviting prospect for the uninitiated. This is one beautiful journey you do not want to miss.
