TS circular asking police to curb protests angers lawyers

- DC CORRESPONDENT

A circular issued by the TS government directing the police to restrict the agitation for bifurcation of High Court and also against the provisional allocation of subordinate judicial officers between AP and TS has left Tadvocates angry. A majority of the T-advocates opine that the circular will further provoke the protesters.

Telangana High Court Advocates Association president Gandra Mohan Rao said “The circular was issued under pressure from the High Court. The government succumbing to such tactics is not good for democracy.”

He said these types of circulars will not stop the protests and the agitation will continue till the T-advocates achieve their goal.

The T-Congress Legal Cell too condemned the circular, accusing the government of trying to crush the peaceful agitation. C. Damodar Reddy, chairman of the Congress Legal Cell said, “T-advocates played a vital role in the Tmovement. It is unfortunate that the TRS government, instead supporting them, is trying to suppress their voice.”

The circular directs the collectors and SPs of all the districts and also police commissioners of Hyderabad and Cyberabad to ensure security of all the judges and also provide armed police personnel for the security of the judges wherever required.

It also directs the police to implement restrictions as per the direction of a division bench made in 2011 during the T-agitation that no advocate should be allowed to shout slogans in court corridors or court halls and only those advocates whose names are printed on the daily cause list be allowed in the courts.
