LION-HEARTED SHOW

-

The lion-hearted P.V. Sindhu has won the hearts of millions. Her coach P. Gopichand deserves a lot of praise. Sindhu put up a brave fight. Eventual winner Carolina Marin has lost only one game in the whole tournament and that was to Sindhu. Sindhu is a young, hardworking, dedicated and confident player. We wish her many laurels.

Ajaz Raza Secunderabad

The government should not only felicitate winners like P.V. Sindhu and Sakshi Malik, but also encourage other athletes who made it to the finals by announcing cash prizes, as qualifying for the Olympics by itself is an achievement. If we neglect the finalists, we cannot hope to be among the winners. K.V. Mallikarjun Rao Secunderabad

The girl child, generally looked down upon and subjected to many atrocities in our country, is the one now salvaging India's pride and image at the Rio Olympics. Every Indian ought to be grateful to these golden women, including Dipa Karmakar, who have proven that with hard work, nothing is impossible. Nagarajamani M.V. Madhapur, Hyderabad

The extraordinary performance by P.V. Sindhu is indeed a moment of pride for both Telangana and for the country. Sindhu fought hard till the end and this shows her dedication, hard work and sincere approach. Kudos also to Sindhu’s coach and parents for their role behind this unforgettable achievement. V. Padmanabhan Secunderabad

Sindhu's performance at Rio is inspiring for all Indians. Her performance proves that every Indian has the talent, it is the responsibility of the state to encourage and hone this talent. This can be done by improving facilities in educational institutions. R.N. Radhakrishnan Nagole, Hyderabad

Shobhaa De's views are highly objectionable and condemnable (Enough of Rio, aim for Tokyo, DC Aug. 20). In fact, the article demeans women. It is disgusting that De makes personal comments about sportspersons. If she wanted to encourage sports, she should have desisted from making such nasty comments. Vijayendra Kulkarni Hyderabad
