DIFFICULT MOVE
We cannot support Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s order to demolish 28,000 illegal buildings in the city as the implementation of this order is not easy (28,000 illegal buildings to be razed, says KCR, September 25). It can create a lot of legal problems. What about punishment for the government officials and builders involved? This can endanger the CM’s political career too. The CM should have consulted legal experts. The CM’s decision to demolish 28,000 illegal buildings is a good move. The illegal buildings were given permission by corrupt officials. The eventual sufferers are the commoners. The government should first try to eliminate corruption from its departments instead of razing illegal buildings. The Chief Minister’s resolve to end the construction of illegal buildings in Hyderabad is appreciated. This will certainly benefit the future generations of Hyderabad. If this is done it be a step forward in bringing about Bangaru Telangana. But I am very sceptical about this order. The TRS has a political alliance with MIM and this may come in the way of the government’s plans. There is no point in empty rhetoric. Without punishment for corrupt officials and politicians the problem of illegal buildings cannot be solved. Eliminating corruption must be the first priority. Unless corrupt officials are dismissed corruption cannot be controlled. The misery of Hyderabad must be a lesson for other cities in TS and AP. It’s shocking that 28,000 illegal buildings have been built in Hyderabad. The government’s move to announce a reward to informants about illegal buildings is a good move. This can prove a deterrent.
