Apple shops in the city
Tuplejump, a citybased big data company, has vaulted into the big leagues after being acquired by Apple
Two techies, both in their early 20s. One from Aurangabad, the other from Hyderabad. United by a dream to create a big data platform for developers.
In May 2013, Rohit Brijmohan Rai and Venkat Sai Satya Prakash Buddhavarapu gave up their jobs as tech architects to set up Tuplejump Software Private Limited. The company was set up with a capital of just `1 lakh and a home-office at Kukatpally.
Things remained relatively quiet... until it got acquired by Apple Inc., that is. Describing their platform, the duo have earlier said, “Tuplejump provides ready to use, out of the box, all integrated end-to-end data pipeline components to bring an idea to life fast. While most startups spend a lot of time studying and integrating various OSS, Tuplejump assembled a system, incorporating best of the breed systems. It presents all data in a familiar format and allows the user to mix and mash and analyze as one wants, without worrying about the technology.” They focussed on using the combination of Apache Spark and Cassandra to build their platform. Spark is an open source data analytics cluster computing framework, while Cassandra is an opensource distributed database management system designed to handle large amounts of data across commodity servers. In October 2013, Tuplejump set up its foreign subsidiary, Tuplejump Inc. in California with the help of Deepak Alur, a veteran in the IT industry since 1989.
“Satya was a quiet guy and Rohit was more outgoing,” says Ramesh Loganathan, managing director of Progress Software. Keeping with their natures, Rohit took care of business development as the chief executive officer, while Satya worked in the background as chief technology officer.
Since the acquisition, 34year-old Rohit has been inducted into its US campus and 33-year-old Satya is working at Apple’s Hyderabad facility.
