NEW SYSTEM FOR POWER MAINTENANCE

- DC CORRESPONDENT HYDERABAD, SEPT. 27

After ensuring that there are no power cuts due to shortage of electricity, the Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company is now working on a system under which maintenance, repair, tree trimming and other works will be taken up only on specified days of a week. Citizens will be informed about the dates.

For example, power shutdowns will be taken up for repair only on Thursdays in Banjara Hills and Jubilee Hills, and on Saturdays in Sithaphalmandi, Namalgundu, and Fridays in Gachi Bowli from 9 am to 3 pm.

“One day in a week would be declared as the day for maintenance. The list of areas would be published soon. We are working on a system which will keep residents informed about the day,” a senior official of TS Southern Discom said.

Currently, tree trimming and other maintenance works are taken up without a particular schedule and people are often not informed. Also, in case of power tripping due to overload or any other emergency, there is no system in place which will let residents know what time the power will be back.

When contacted, Discom director (operations) Sreenivas Reddy said a mobile phone app is also being developed through which consumers will be informed about the expected time of restoration of power supply in case of tripping.

The idea is to improve the interaction between consumers and Discom officials. Actually two apps are being developed. One for the consumers, through which they would be not only informed about the expected restoration time of power but also about repairs being taken up in their colony, a month in advance," he said.

The other app is for improving the internal efficiency of the staff.
