Erring eateries pay huge fines

GHMC officials make surprise checks at 379 hotels, find several violations

The Hotel Taj Mahal along the Sarojini Devi road at Secunderab­ad, was on Tuesday fined `10,000 by the GHMC’s health officers for not having a filter mechanism for the water being served to costumers. The Grand Bawarchi at Charminar meanwhile, was fined for dumping waste in the nalas nearby. These two food businesses are among several who have been fined for civic violations.

The GHMC has come down heavily on city restaurant­s and total fines have now reached `1.5 lakh. Surprise visits were conducted at 379 food outlets — including tiffin centers, hostels, dhabas and restaurant­s.

The civic body’s bosses have passed orders stating that each assistant medical health officer should visit 100 hotels a day to check on sanitation, trade license and to impose fines if businesses are found littering or using plastics bags below 50 microns.

Officials checks were also conducted at the Grand Solitaire hotel and Nanking restaurant at Secunderab­ad, the Blue Sea, Taj Tristar, the Reliance hotel, the Take Away Biryani point, Anamaiya hotel at BN Reddy Nagar, Deccan dhaba and others.

The Commission­er has also ordered a special drive on commercial buildings to identify sanitation and trade license violators. Dr. B. Janardhan Reddy, Commission­er, GHMC said: “The special drive has identified 38 hotels for violating hygiene rules. Many businesses were also found throwing refuse into the nalas.”

Raids were also held at Hotel Taj Mahal on SD Road, Grand Bawarchi at Charminar, Grand Solitaire hotel and Nanking at S’bad, Taj Tristar, Reliance hotel, Take Away Biryani point and Anamaiya hotel.
