Brain dead man’s organs donated

A brain dead patient’s family came forward to give a new lease of life to six people who were desperatel­y waiting for organ donors on Wednesday. Mandava Vamshi Krishna who belongs to Jaggaiahpe­t was working as network administra­tor at Mandava Engineerin­g College.

He was critically ill with a brain disease and was undergoing treatment at Andhra Hospitals. His condition deteriorat­ed on Tuesday and the doctors declared him brain dead on Wednesday morning.

The family of Vamshi showing came forward to donate his organs. His parents Venugopal Rao and Rajeswari gave their consent to donate all his useful organs through the Jeevandan Trust. The doctors immediatel­y made arrangemen­ts for the organ transplant­ation and to transplant them on six people who were waiting for donors.

Liver, heart valves and the heart of Vamshi Krishna were shifted to Hyderabad and were utilized on the listed patients under the Jeevandan scheme of the government. The heart was used by Apollo Hospitals on a 26-yearold patient and heart valves were given to Innova Children’s Heart Hospital. The liver was given to Yashoda Hospital and has been transplant­ed on a 42-year-old patient from Ludhiana. The recipients are in the intensive care unit after surgery.

Two kidneys were given to two patients at Ayush and NRI Hospitals in Vijayawada; the eyes were donated to Vasan Eye Care.
