A Bengaluru-based man was arrested for duping a woman from Madhapur of around `10 lakh promising marriage.

The 43-year-old suspect uploaded a fake profile on a matrimonial site and lured the victim and her family. Cyberabad police arrested the suspect

The suspect, Sasidharan Kattiri, a resident of Rushtum Bagh in Bengaluru, who is an administration officer in Dreams Infra India Limited, told the victim that he was based in the United Kingdom, and took money from her promising to get a visa for her to the United Kingdom so that he can take her there after their marriage.

“The suspect had sent a request to her family through the matrimonial website expressing his willingness to marry her. They communicated further and scheduled the wedding. He then asked her for money to obtain a visa for the victim to United Kingdom. He had earlier told the family that he was a permanent resident in the United Kingdom.

“The victim first transferred `7.5 lakh into his account. He later took a gold chain and a high-end mobile phone from her in the name of upcoming marriage rituals,” said a senior official from the cyber crime police station, Cyberabad.

He then stopped talking to the victim.

Later, after investigations she came to know that Sasidharan Kattiri was already married and had a family with two children.

Police booked a case of cheating against him. He was arrested by the cops and produced in a local court.
