Solution Needed For Students’ woes
NEW DELHI, OCT. 19 The Union Home Minister, Mr. Nanda, told Congress MPs today that solutions had to be found not only for the problems of students but also for other problems facing the country.
Quick and adequate action on the part of the authorities was essential, he recognised. They should do something active and practical, which people would appreciate.
Mr. Nanda was addressing a meeting of Congress Members of Parliament present in Delhi which had another discussion today on the students unrest and other current problems. Forty-six members were present.
Mr. Raghunath Singh, Secretary of the Party, presided and several other members participated in the discussion. Many of them said that the Opposition parties were exploiting the situation with an eye on the elections. The members also expressed the view that the present generation of students which did not have the experience of suffering and sacrifice of the pre-independence days had values different from those of the past, and that the leadership provided to students was not inspiring.
Mr. Nanda told the MPs that the Congress which had a historic role had to win the elections if there was not to be instability in the country. A member, Mr. B.K.P. Sinha, remarked that “our effort should not be concerned only with winning the election.”
Mr. Nanda said it was important that democracy should function and remain intact in the country. The Congress had to stay in power for the survival of democracy and for facing the external threats.
