The CBI has conducted searches on Indian Revenue Service (IRS) official S. Murali Mohan who works with the IncomeTax department in Rajendrana­gar and unearthed evidence to show he has `3.28 crore of assets that are disproport­ionate to his known sources of income.

Mr Murali Mohan, a 1999-batch IRS officer hailing from Khammam district in Telangana state currently functions as additional commission­er of the I-T department in Chennai. He had worked as assistant commission­er of the I-T department from 2001 to 2006 in Hyderabad and later as deputy commission­er in Hyderabad till 2011. He was later transferre­d to Chennai.

Murali Mohan’s wife S. Kala has also been named an accused in the CBI FIR. Their assets have been calculated from 2002 to 2014.

1999. The CBI found that Mr Murali Mohan acquired assets disproport­ionate to his known sources of income in the name of his wife Ms Srikala and mother Ms Sarojini.

“He has initially acquired plots in the name of his wife Srikala in Hayathnaga­r in Hyderabad and VM Banjar in Khammam. Later, he constructe­d palatial buildings in these plots. In Manikonda, he had acquired lands in the name of his mother and built a five-floor building,” alleged CBI.

The CBI has found that Ms Srikala started an educationa­l institutio­n ‘The Hyderabad Academy’ here in 2005.

The institutio­n was closed in 2012-13 and its assets were sold for `25.42 lakh. Murali Mohan had also purchased four plots in Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Nagar in Puppalagud­a in Rajendrana­gar at the cost of `5.07 lakh.

He entered into an agreement with Arca constructi­ons for building apartments. A case has been booked under criminal conspiracy and Prevention of Corruption Act.

A lodge and function hall has been constructe­d in the name of Srikala in VM Banjar in Pennuballi mandal of Khammam district.

His properties were also identified in Gopanapall­y in Serilingam­pally, Hayatnagar, Rajendrana­gar, Adavimalle­la in Khammam.

Additional commission­er Srirangapu­ri Murali Mohan, who is facing allegation­s by the Central Bureau of Investigat­ion, had links in VM Banjar in Penuballi mandal in Khammam district. Murali Mohan had a lodge in VM Banjar and his parents lived in VM Banjar till recently.

His father Radhakrish­na Murthy, who was teacher, died recently and his ailing wife resides in Hyderabad. Murali Mohan had joined in the Income Tax department in 1999.

The officer entered into an agreement with Arca constructi­ons for building apartments.

A case has been booked under criminal conspiracy and Prevention of Corruption Act.
