KALMADI’S RETURN

It was strange to read that the Indian Olympic Association elected Suresh Kalmadi, who was jailed for his involvement in scams, as life president, as also Abhay Singh Chauthala (Kalmadi made IOA patron, Dec. 28). The government should take action where accused persons are elected. The IOA appointment of Kalmadi and Chautala is a shame on how our public institutions work. Kalmadi was behind bars for misappropriation and then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh refused to meet him. Chautala was under investigation for disproportionate assets. Both the appointments should be reversed immediately to ensure probity in public life.
