Chaos rules at RTAs after hikes

- DC CORRESPONDENT

The revised licence and vehicle registration fee has created confusion among motorists as majority have paid specified fee online while booking the slot last week. The RTA officials, however, insisted that they pay the remaining fee as per the central government’s orders.

Hyderabad central zone RTO G.P.N. Prasad said that the motorists were questioning the staff on the increased fee. “We started charging revised fee from Wednesday. Our staff tries to explain to them but the public seem to be confused. Majority of the motorists are questioning for why they need to pay more as they paid money towards charges online while slot booking. We are collecting the additional amount at counters by explaining them about the revised fees,” he said.

Deputy Transport Commissioner (IT) C. Ramesh said that the motorists who have made online payment while booking slot should pay the excess amount at counters. “We have upgraded all the applications and software as per the guidelines given by the Central government,” he said.

As the RTA officials insisted motorists to pay additional charges, they faced a hard time because of the current currency crisis as also the nonavailability of cashless transaction system at the transport department counters.

Some of the motorists submitted demand drafts towards the additional charges while some others paid the additional fee in the mode of cash.
