Students get an attractive option

-

Carrying additional baggage to international destinations is more expensive, and passengers are made to shell out money through their noses.

For those flying to the US, Air India and Emirates are collecting $100 to $175 per additional parcel with specific dimensions and weight. If the baggage exceed the limits, the charge will go up to $225.

Other flight operators are collecting charges based on the weight and the charges depend on the prevailing dollar value on the particular day. Very few courier and transport services are offering lesser tariffs compared with the additional baggage charges by flight operators. Indigo is allowing 15kg per passenger and charging `525 per kg for additional luggage/baggage. Jet Airways is allowing only 7kg per passenger.

Students from the city are mostly depending on private transport services for sending their luggage to the US and the UK.

Almost all the major flight operators are allowing two pieces of baggage consisting of 23kg weight for check-in with specific size dimensions for the bag.

Manoj Thatikonda from city, studying MS in the US, said that most of the students were adopting courier services for the transportation of additional baggage from Hyderabad to the US. “We get the luggage after 24 hours of reaching the US. They collect `550 to `600 per kg.”

Some agencies are exclusively working on the transportation of luggage and baggage to international destinations,” he said.

CEO of Gapti Enterprises Suresh Gapti said they charge based on the weight of consignments.
