ARMY MEN BEAT CHAIN SNATCHER

A chain-snatcher, who targeted an army officer's wife at AOC Centre Road, was caught and roughed up by a group of army men on Wednesday evening before he was handed over to the police.

The victim, M. Meena, was slightly injured. So was her attacker, V. Sai Kumar, 40, a resident of Valmiki Nagar, West Marredpall­y, who was said to be drunk at the time. Police said the incident occurred at around 6.30 pm when Ms Meena was walking to a shop to buy milk. The suspect came from behind and pulled her gold chain. She screamed for help and was heard by the army men.

A chain-snatcher, who tried to grab the gold chain of an Army official’s wife on AOC Centre Road, was caught and roughed up by some soldiers on Wednesday evening.

Army officials handed over the suspect to the police.

The victim, M. Meena, is the wife of a Subedar Major. She suffered a minor injury.

The suspect, V. Sai Kumar, 40, a resident of Valmikinag­ar of West Marredpall­y, was also drunk at the time of the offence.

Sai Kumar was injured in the thrashing by soldiers.

Police said the incident occurred at around 6.30 pm when Meena was walking to a shop to buy milk.

“The victim had reached between AOC Road and Mahendra Hills Road. The suspect came from behind and pulled her gold chain. The woman screamed for help. Though the area was deserted, some soldiers were present. They caught the suspect and thrashed him,” said inspector T. Lakshmi Narayana, of Tukaramgat­e police.

The suspect, who did not have a bike, was walking behind the victim and tried to run away from the spot after grabbing the chain.

The soldiers brought the suspect V. Sai Kumar, to Tukaramgat­e police station and handed him over to cops.

They also filed a formal complaint.

Police found the suspect was a petty criminal. “He was earlier booked for petty thefts. He targeted the woman as he found her alone on the road,” said a police officer.
