15 days on, taps in city still run dry

- DC CORRESPONDENT

The water problems of Ghulam Murtuza Chowni, also known as GM Chowni in Chandrayangutta, are never-ending as the residents are not getting drinking water for the past 15 days.

As a result, the locals have to collect water from the Shamsheergunj water tank filter, two km away from their locality.

Mr. Md. Ghouse Ahmed, a resident of GM Chowni, said, “The water problem is there for the past 8-10 years. Other areas get water supply on alternate days, but we get it only once a week. The first 10-15 minutes of the supply would be contaminated. Then, for the next 30 minutes, we get good water. That will not suffice.”

“For the past 15 days, we aren’t getting any water. Local corporators approach us once every month, but whenever we discuss the water problems with them, they assure us they would solve it, but nothing happens,” said Shaik Javeed, a resident of Gumbad ki masjid in Chandrayangutta.

“Officials keep saying water works are going on and very soon the entire area will get water. We are still struggling to get even two buckets of good water. With the onset of summer, the days are going to be very difficult.” S. Satyanarayana, assistant manager at HMWS & SB, said, “There were some problems, but I have asked the linemen to supply water immediately to the areas. Also, we have made arrangements for water tankers.

Said Amjadullah Khan, “It’s a gimmick by local politicians as they have set up water plants in the adjacent areas. By not supplying regular water to us, they are indirectly forcing us to purchase water from the private vendors. This game is going on.”
