COPS SEIZE 217 BUSES IN CITY

Eight people were convicted for driving without licence. Two of them were fined `500 and `600 on Friday.

Ten people were produced in court during the special drives conducted by the police against those who violate traffic laws in the city.

Of the eight who were convicted one was jailed for a day and seven others for two days. A fine of `2,700 was collected on Friday during the special drives. Ten juveniles were fined `500.

213 cases were booked in the special drive against school and college buses as well as Setwin buses. 35 cases were booked against school buses, eight against vans for violating no entry rules. Ten cases were booked for carrying excess passengers.

589 buses were booked on Friday and a fine of `1,16,995 were collected. 217 buses were seized in Hyderabad city.

Traffic south zone and north zone DCP A.V. Ranganath said, “Today Hyderabad traffic police conducted a special drive against school, college buses, Setwin and private buses. Checks were done mainly on safety like whether the driver had a valid licence, whether buses are complying with Supreme Court guidelines on school buses etc. Things like the presence of an attendant in the bus, fitness, overloadin­g and insurance were also checked. Tonight we are conducting special drunk driving checks throughout the city on RTC, private buses, lorries etc. 589 buses were booked and heavy penalties were imposed.”
