WARDEN’S HUSBAND ABUSES GIRLS

- DC CORRESPONDENT HYDERABAD, MARCH 26

A hostel warden’s husband allegedly sexually abused students staying at the hostel in Nalgonda. The issue came to light when an NGO came to know about the matter and lodged a complaint with the police.

Around 170 students of Classes III to VII are staying in the government residential hostel in Neredugommu village in Devarakonda. As around 100 students have gone on vacation, only 50 students are staying in the hostel now.

Ms Vijayarani, 48, is working as the hostel warden and her husband Viluva Raju, 55, who is also a dance teacher often visits the hostel to help her. According to the students, whenever he visited the hostel, he would ask them to kiss him or make vulgar comments about their clothing and colour.

According to sources, recently when a senior official visited the hostel, the students complained to him about Viluva Raju's behaviour, but it was ignored. An NGO from Devarakonda who came to know of this, visited the hostel on Saturday. The students broke down before them and detailed how they were abused.

On Sunday the NGO lodged a complaint with the police. “We have registered a case of sexual harassment and under Section 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and launched an inquiry,” inspector Devarakonda (rural) G. Venkateshwar Reddy said.

Police teams are looking for the suspect who is absconding.
