ACB traps civic body official

- DC CORRESPONDENT HYDERABAD, MARCH 28

Anti-Corruption Bureau personnel on Tuesday arrested a GHMC deputy director for taking bribe from a private contractor for processing a bill.

The contractor Ashok Goud approached ACB after K. Kishan Rao, the deputy director, biodiversity, GHMC, had allegedly demanded `1-lakh bribe for processing a bill of a park developed by him at Serilingampally on the outskirts of the city.

“Goud had developed a park at a residential colony at Serilingampally. The total bill was around `5.7 lakh. Though the bill had reached the deputy director, it was not cleared for payment. When Goud approached the official, he was asked to pay `1 lakh. After bargaining, the official settled for `70,000, but the contractor approached us,” said ACB DSP V. Ravi Kumar.

As per the trap laid by the ACB personnel, the deputy director came to Kamath Hotel at Lakdikapul to accept the bribe. Goud told the official that he would pay `30,000 as an initial payment, and he would pay the rest later.

When the GHMC official accepted the money, the ACB sleuths pounced on him and arrested him. The sleuths also collected evidences and the fingerprints on the currency.

The ACB officials raided in his home to recover more evidence.

“The official is known to be corrupt in the department. It is likely that he must have taken huge amounts of bribe earlier also. So our teams are raiding his house to find more details about his wealth. If the property is disproportionate to his legal income, we would charge more cases against him,” said an official.
