Enable students, defeat cynicism to succeed: Prez

- DC CORRESPONDENT

Stating that the future of any institution is dependent upon enabling the faculty, students and the staff to overcome cynicism, President Pranab Mukherjee on Wednesday said that one way of achieving this is by making everyone a stakeholder in collaborative institution-building.

Immersive teaching supplemented by intensive research alone can advance the vision of the university in generating new knowledge, he said.

Mr Mukherjee was the Chief Guest at the first convocation of EFLU that was held in Gachibowli on Wednesday.

“Today, sustaining and reinvigorating higher education, in India as well as in the world has become a major challenge, especially so in public institutions. Challenges exist for such institutions, both from outside and inside. At least four distinct factors impinge on the administration of any higher education institution and they are –escalation of costs of learning, narrow pragmatics, the allure of invasive dominant communication systems depleting attention span and corrosion of trust,” he said.

Administrative strength and sensitivity removes hurdles in the path of learning, and allows academics to thrive, as this university has displayed, the President said referring to EFLU.

A total of 364 students were conferred degrees, including 93 UG students, 174 PG students and 97 Ph.D scholars from various faculties.
