- DC CORRESPONDENT HYDERABAD, APRIL 27

The NITI Aayog has taken a decision to wind up its regional development monitoring and evaluation office in Hyderabad. This office caters to Andhra Pradesh, Telangana state and Karnataka.

NITI Aayog sent a circular to this effect on April 26, shocking the personnel. The NITI Aayog now plans to establish a zonal office in Chennai.

Mr Prashant Kumar Singh, undersecretary of development monitoring and evaluation office, NITI Aayog, sent a circular to the Hyderabad regional office stating: “Keeping in view the acute shortage of staff and functional requirements of the DMEO, the competent authority has decided to rationalise staff deployment among DMEP headquarters and to establish six RDMEO zonal offices across the country.”

The circular said the DMEO headquarters will be located in New Delhi while the RDMEO zonal offices will be established in Bhopal (central), Chandigarh (north), Chennai (south), Guwahati (northeast), Kolkata (east) and Mumbai (eest).

Mr Singh asked officials working in all RDMEOs except the ones named in a circular to give their preferences/options by April 28 for posting in those seven offices.

RDMEO officials said the Hyderabad office was given regional status in January 2016. After a year and a half, the NITI Aayog has decided to set up a zonal office without prior information.

About 15 people, including the director, work at the Hyderabad RDMEO and some of them are trying to get deputation with the Telangana state government.
