Drinking water mixed with sewer water due to broken pipes Water problem in Chanchalguda

-

The residents of Chanchalguda are facing acute water problems as the pipelines had been broken and the new ones have not been laid. Water coming via the residential pipes is heavily polluted as they get mixed with sewer water along the way.

Md Aleemuddin, a resident of Kaladera, said, “The works on replacing the water pipelines are going on for the past one month and there is no progress to it. Due to this, we are facing a severe water crisis and are forced to purchase water in cans from shopkeepers. Every day, the families here are purchasing around 3 to 4 cans of water. This means each family is indirectly spending `100 for water every day.” He added, “The water pipelines were very old and got rusted. This created holes. Sewer water was getting mixed with pipe water as the sewer line also passes below the water lines. The sewers are also in a bad shape. Due to this, the residents of the area are getting polluted water from their pipes. There is no chance of storing water in the water sump as, if we store it even for a day, the entire sump gives out a foul smell due to the mixing of polluted water. Many are forced to use water from borewell as they are unable to afford the water cans.”

“We have given complaints to the Water Board on the issue. After verifying the problem, they decided a month ago to lay new pipes. The works are progressing slowly. The water problem remains unsolved,” said M. Linga Raju, another resident.

He noted, “Now, the water tankers are also not coming to our area and we purchase 20 litres of water by cans from retail shops. This is a huge burden on the poor residents. Water Board officials should send the water tankers once a week at least to solve the water woes.”

Mr Ahmed Balala, Malakpet MLA, said, “The works are ongoing for the past one month, to replace the damaged pipes. Very soon the works will be completed. We are hopeful that within a week, the residents will receive drinking water.”
