Child marriage prevented
Hyderabad: A 15-year-old girl was rescued by the police from being married to a 25year-old man in Jangaon district on Friday night. The marriage was to take place on Sunday. The girl had fared well in the recent Class X exam, scoring 70 per cent marks. Police said the parents were not willing to support her education and wanted her to get married. The volunteers of a non-government organisation alerted collector A. Devasana who called child welfare and anganwadi workers who stopped the marriage. The parents were counselled and warned that if they forced the girl to marry, action would be taken against them.
