Eamcet certification in progress

- DC CORRESPONDENT

The first day of certificate verification for the Telangana State Engineering, Agriculture & Medical Common Entrance Test (TS EAMCET) 2017 went smoothly.

Candidates within the rank range of 1 to 6,000 were called on Monday.

Helpline centres have been set up across 21 institutes around the state. There were more crowds at Maredpally, Kukkatpally, Masab Tank and Ramanthapur. B. Srinivas, the state camp officer, said, "We started the programme at 9 am according to schedule. The turnout has been as expected. Last year, from 71,000 convenor seats, we could fill only 55,000, though the number of seats was reduced from the preceding year when it was 83,000. Hopefully, this year also, the number of seats will be reduced as intake is always frozen after 60,000 students.”

Students who turned up for the certificate verification had a general query about the same process being available online. However, the board has made it mandatory for the candidate to appear for certificate verification at least once, after which it is not required.

“We can verify SSC certificates online, but to find out the local status of the candidate, it is necessary to verify certificates from 6th standard to intermediate, which is done face to face. That's why each candidate has to appear in person at least once,” Mr Srinivas said.

The second phase of allotment for students who are on the borderline — that is, those who may narrowly miss getting into premier institutions because of their rank —will begin in the second week of July. According to a Supreme Court judgment, the allotment process should be over by the end of July.

Education consultants and services are doing brisk business by selling brochures containing details of engineering and medical colleges across all districts of Telangana for `100.

“Although most of the information is available online, it is scattered and we would have to look at individual websites of colleges. This way, we get all the details in one place,” says student Anas F.
