Lack of maintenance of streetlights, safety issues
Iam a resident of H. No. 11-13-155, opposite to SV Homes, Road No. 3 at Alkapuri Colony, Saroornagar, Hyderabad. The apathy of the civic authorities as regards lack of maintenance of streetlights in our neighbourhood is too disturbing to residents.
The GHMC has provided streetlights to our locality only recently. However, there’s no maintenance and several lights are often not lit. No one is undertaking the requisite repairs or installation of new bulbs/ tubes.
Ours is a respected residential colony. Lack of proper streetlights is making our neighbourhood a hub for anti-social activities. We often find young men huddled together with liquor bottles in areas where there is no light.
There is a high chance that if the situation is not monitored and proper action not taken, this might culminate in something worse, like a riot or a gang war between groups of people under the influence of alcohol. Besides, it becomes a safety issue for many women who reside in our neighbourhood as they feel scared to walk alone, and there is the possibility of eve-teasing and sexual assault after dusk sets in.
We have been facing this issue since the past one year. We have lodged complaints in the past but no action followed. We request the authorities to look into the matter and make the streetlights work.
