What must be done to curb burning of garbage in city?

-

Instead of burning, garbage in cities can be decomposed in the following ways: Organic use like landfilling can be done on the outskirts of the city. Organic waste must be recycled and non-recycled waste must go for “plasma gasification” to produce sync gas. “Waste to energy” process should be adopted for non-organic waste. Citizens must have awareness about “5 pot system” for community composting that can put garbage into proper use. Above all, people must minimise production of garbage. — Priyanka Kanipati (Congratulations Priyanka Kanipati! You win `150 which you may collect from our office before Friday)

First of all, the GHMC should select a piece of land faraway from the city for dumping garbage. The open land should be fenced with an iron mesh wall for safety. The entire land should be dug 10 feet deep leaving 5-6 feet land untouched from the fencing.

We live in Jubilee Hills. Most residents here burn garbage. Very often it is done by the domestic servants of the homeowners who are always out of station. There must be a door-todoor garbage collection service run by the GHMC to collect coconut tree branches that have been pulled down.

If a private firm like Civic Exnora — with limited number of vans — can collect household garbage every day, why can't the GHMC do it?

Fines should be imposed on those who throw garbage inside empty plots.

The GHMC must educate the public and ensure that flying squads check each and every street, side road, unused open plots and seal those areas. The public cannot tolerate garbage burning just because nobody penalises them. — Saraswathi Muralidhar

Public discipline is of topmost priority. They must not dump garbage by the roadside. I have seen people coming out early in the morning and dumping garbage by the roadside. The garbage bins must be cleaned by the GHMC. The GHMC must approve all plans and houses must have provision for disposing of garbage. — Mohammed Zakir
