-

Mittapalli Ramesh, 35, a software professional, had been harassing his pregnant wife suspecting that the baby in her womb was female. When his wife refused to go for gender determination tests he started abusing her physically. Unable to bear the torture she lodged a complaint with Uppal police. Ramesh was arrested and remanded.

M. Ramesh, who hails from Nalgonda, was working as a techie in Wipro. He got married to Swapna in 2015.

At the time of marriage Swapna’s parents gave `10 lakh and jewellery as dowry but after a few months, Ramesh started demanding more dowry and harassed Swapna. Her family gave `5 lakh more. However the harassment did not stop. That continued even after she conceived. Her husband and in-laws said that they do not want a female child and told her that she should deliver a boy only and asked her to undergo the foetus gender determination test. But when she refused to go they harassed her physically and mentally. She became weak and the foetus got aborted.

In August 2016, Swapna delivered a female child and they started harassing her. Unable to bear it she came back to her parents around eight months ago. But Ramesh continued to trouble her over the phone and by calling her office and spreading rumours about her character.

A few days ago he sent her a notice for divorce. A shocked Swapna lodged a complaint. He was arrested and remanded.
