In a shocking incident, police beat up a woman after her son allegedly committed a theft in Komalancha thanda village in Nizamsagar mandal of Kamareddy district.

Sources said Ramavath Gopi of Komalancha thanda lodged a complaint with the police stating that 2.5 tola gold and `30,000 were stolen from his house recently.

He suspected workers who were camping near their thanda.

Meanwhile, police took into custody Kurma Raju for committing the theft. They beat him up black and blue to make him confess.

Unable to bear the torture Raju told them that he had given the booty to his mother Kurma Balamani.

The police along with the accused went to his house around Tuesday midnight and asked Balamani to return the stolen property.

They also searched the house but did not find anything.

Later, Nizamsagar subinspector N. Anthi Reddy beat her up severely to give up the stolen property.

When Balamani fell down unconscious, the SI along with three constables left the place.

Speaking to newsmen, Balamani said the police took away Rs 15,000 and gold ornaments from their home. "The sub inspector behaved inhumanly and beat me up," she said.

Meanwhile, the CPM and MRPS activists staged a dharna at Nizamsagar crossroads in Kamareddy on Wednesday demanding suspension of SI Anthi Reddy.
