Probe into links between dead SI and women cops

-

Mystery shrouds the accident near Himayatsagar on Saturday night which killed an SI and a woman trainee constable and left another woman constable with serious injuries.

Cyberabad police found the SI was not attending any training at the Telangana State Police Academy, but the question is where he met the two women trainee constables. More doubts were sparked as the SI had avoided the main road and had taken an isolated shortcut that had no lighting.

SI Mohammed Khaleel, 44, was posted as SI with the Special Branch in Vikarabad district, while Lingampally Keerthi, 24, a resident of Ramanthapur and her friend Mamatha, 24, from Amberpet were undergoing constable training at the police academy.

On Saturday the trainees finished a test and were given holidays till August 21. All the other trainees left the academy before evening, but Keerthi and Mamatha left only at around 5 pm.

Meanwhile, SI Khaleel, who was at Vikarabad police headquarters, left office at 3 pm. On Saturday morning he called his wife Syed Mumtaz and informed her that he would be coming to his home in Shamshabad, but did not specify the time.

Initial inquiries revealed that both women boarded the SI’s car near a temple in Himayathsagar. Police suspect that he was heading towards Rajendranagar and from there towards Amberpet. “Mamatha suffered injuries on the head and legs and internal injuries too. Though she is out of danger doctors say she needs time to recover,” SI S. Venkat Reddy of Rajendranagar said.

The police is analysing the call data of the three. CCTV recordings indicated that the SI’s vehicle was not anywhere near the police academy. In 2017, SI Khaleel had visited the academy once on official purpose. SI Khaleel is survived by his wife, a son who completed Intermediate and a daughter who is now in Class X.
