Harish Rao slams Congress, TD
Irrigation minister T. Harish Rao stated that the TRS government was known for its action, and that it was not confined to issuing statements like the previous Telugu Desam and Congress governments with regard to executing irrigation projects, especially in drought-prone Mahbubnagar district.
He said 6. 5 lakh acres would be provided water from the Kalwakurthy, Bheema, Nettempadu and Koilsagar projects during the Rabi season this year besides one lakh acres under the Jurala project.
Speaking at Jedcherla in Mahbubnagar district on Sunday afternoon, the minister blamed the previous governments for not completing the lift irrigation projects for years. The TRS government delivered on its promise of completing pending projects and supplying water for irrigation. he said. Giving an example Mr Harish Rao said Kalwakurthy lift scheme was sanctioned by 1984 but work started in 2005; this showed both the TD and Congress delayed work on the project for two decades, Mr Harish Rao said.
He said the TRS government had spent `2,100 crore to complete ongoing schemes and irrigation facility was being extended to new areas every year.
“If 95 per cent of work was completed by the TD and Congress government, as they are claiming, why was only 57,000 acres provided irrigation between 2004 and 2014,” he asked. “This itself shows that their claims are nothing but blatant lies,” the minister said.
Earlier, Mr Harish Rao released water from the Kalwakurthy lift irrigation scheme at Madaram for 30,000 acres in the Kalwakurthy Assembly seat on Sunday morning.
