TRS MLA issues threat to banker Veeresam wanted official facing graft charge reinstated

- DC CORRESPONDENT HYDERABAD, DEC. 10

Nakrekal TRS MLA Vemula Veeresam threatened a district official of Nalgonda with dire consequences if he did not reinstate a suspended officer of the District Cooperative Central Bank (DCCB). The phone conversion the MLA had with DCCB chief executive officer Madanmohan got leaked and went viral.

On being questioned by mediapersons on Sunday, Mr Veeresam defended the threatening language he used on the phone, saying that he did it in the interest of securing justice for a disabled woman who had been wrongly suspended by the bank.

The woman in question, general manager K. Lakashamma, was suspended following a case of alleged misappropriation of funds.

Mr Veeresam said he had made several requests to Mr Madanmohan to get the suspended officer reinstated. The CEO remained unmoved, contending that he was not the competent authority and only the DCCB chairman had the power to issue reinstatement orders. The officer told him to talk to the chairman, the MLA claimed.

Miffed at this, Mr Veeresam threatened the CEO that he would not be allowed to work in the district if he did not revoke the suspension orders. In the conversation, Mr Veeresam is purportedly heard saying that Mr Madanmohan belonged to AP so he wouldn’t be allowed to work in Nalgonda. He allegedly even mouthed expletives at the official.

The MLA told reporters that he was merely defending the rights of a woman who was physically challenged and would find difficult to cope with the loss of her job. He said the woman might even commit suicide if she was not reinstated.

Mr Veeresam added, “I may have erred in the choice of words while talking to the bank CEO, but I did that to save the life of a woman.”
