MPs FROM TELUGU STATES STALL PARLIAMENT SESSION

- DC CORRESPONDENT HYDERABAD, MARCH 7

After the Centre announced that there is no possibility of granting special status to Andhra Pradesh, Telugu Desam (TD) and YSR Congress (YSRC) MPs intensified their agitation inside and outside Parliament on Wednesday.

Proceedings in the Lok Sabha were disrupted for the third consecutive day amid protests by TD, YSRC, Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) and other parties on various issues.

The TD and YSRC members have given an adjournment motion in both houses of Parliament demanding discussion on the AP Reorganisation Act.

As soon as the House met for the day, the agitating members started shouting slogans and Speaker Sumitra Mahajan had to adjourn the proceedings for an hour. Telugu Desam MPs demanded a discussion on the implementation of the AP Reorganisation Act, YSRC MPs demanded special status for Andhra Pradesh and TRS MPs demanded raising the cap on reservations.

After the House reassembled, the same situation prevailed and the Speaker adjourned the House for the day without transacting any business.

There were similar scenes and adjournments in the Rajya Sabha.

With so much acrimony between the alliance partners, the Parliament lobbies were rife with discussions on whether the Telugu Desam and BJP would part ways.

Telugu Desam MP Murali Mohan said AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has gathered the opinions of central ministers belonging to the party, as well as MPs, MLAs and MLCs, and will take a decision shortly.

Another Telugu Desam MP, J.C. Diwakar Reddy, said those TD ministers currently in the Cabinet will definitely resign.
