Experts ask TS to compile history

- DC CORRESPONDENT

It has been nearly four years since the state of Telangana came into being, but no efforts have been made to compile and publish an authentic account of history of the state, rue local historians.

Although some history books have been published for candidates appearing for the various recruitment exams conducted by the Telangana State Public Service Commission, neither are they comprehensive nor are they based on archives, according to historian Dr Adapa Satyanarayana, a professor who has retired from Osmania University and a member of the Telangana History and Research Forum.

He says that popular history books that are published for competitive exams cannot be treated as authentic works.

Dr Satyanarayana says that experts and historians from universities such as Osmania, Kakatiya, and Ambedkar have come together to document the history of the region from 3000 BC to 2014, covering the rule of the Satavahanas, the Kakatiyas, the Qutb Shahis and the Asaf Jahis, the formation of Hyderabad state, its merger with AP, and its separation.

He said efforts to document history in the erstwhile united AP were focused on highlighting the achievement of the Vijayanagar Empire, while ignoring the history of Telangana.

The historians asked Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao to implement his announcement in the Assembly a few months ago to document the authentic history of Telangana.
