NITHM STUDENTS SEEK REMOVAL OF DIRECTOR

-

After two days of protests by students against the management, National Institute of Tourism and Hospitality Management (NITHM) director, Mr Chinnam Reddy, while condemning the allegations of the students, has constituted a high-level committee with senior functionaries of the institute to discuss with students their grievances, if any and to find an amicable solution.

It may be mentioned here that the students of NITHM, Gachibowli have been protesting against the alleged atrocities of the director Mr Reddy who has been reportedly modifying rules as per his wish without following the norms of the affiliated Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU), Hyderabad.

“Within a week, the internal patterns have been changed thrice. The faculty of tourism is teaching management. Faculty is also under pressure. The director uses filthy language which doesn’t suit his stature. He threatens people with his political influence and his relationship with the likes of the Chief Minister,”said a student.

Meanwhile, the committee was asked to submit its report and the course of action to be initiated to the management on or before April 16. The director further informed that he is ready to address the genuine concerns of the students.

However, the students said that this committee will be of no use as it was constituted by the director. “We want to confront the director and our main demand is that the director must be removed, as he has no qualms about behaving the way he does because of the backing he allegedly has from the government,”said the student. Students met with tourism minister Mr Chandhulal who heard their voice and agreed that there is injustice and havoc in NITHM. He directed the students to meet the chairman of NITHM. But the students are of the opinion that the chairman is hand in glove to director.

From Monday students will begin protesting along with their parents and if their voice is not heard the students are willing to go on a relay hunger strike.
