Explosion in house rips building

-

The series of blasts that often light up a film screen were seen live on Friday morning when a massive explosion ripped through the first floor of a residential building, leaving severe cracks on the ground floor as well as the first floor of the building. The series of blasts injured one, 29year-old Ashok, who has suffered 70 percent burns and is reported to be in a critical condition.

The blasts occurred in the first floor flat of a building in Krishnanagar, that is owned by one G Prakasham who had rented the portion out to 'Bambula' Balakrishna, an assistant to a top Tollywood director. According to the police, Balakrishna used the premise as a material dump and manufacturing unit. Balakrishna resided nearby and would often visit the place and monitor the manufacturing progress. Ashok had been employed by Balakrishna to make the explosives and had been living in the place for the last one month.

Police said the explosion could be a result of the explosives stored in the house, which were used in blast scenes in movies. A case has been booked against Balakrishna, Ashok and the house owner G Prakasham

The effect of the explosion was so severe that the noise was heard by morning walkers at the indoor stadium located in Yousufguda. SI B. Nagarjuna Reddy who was nearby heard the loud noise and rushed to the spot. He said that there were two loud blastlike sounds, followed by smaller explosions. He said Balakrishna had taken two rooms in this building on rent for close to a decade. Balakrishna worked in the film industry and supplied explosive materials used for creating blast scenes during movie shoots.

Dr Venkanna, scientific officer of Clues Team said that the explosives manufactured were those used in cinematic blasts in 'quib' type devices.

Police said the explosion could be a result of the explosives stored in the house which were used in blast scenes in movies.
