CANTONMENT’S WOES

-

Mohan Guruswamy is right in saying that Cantonments have no relevance in this day and age (‘This is not Pakistan, General Saab!’, May 1). The Army is occupied with its duties and cannot address civilians’ needs. That has to be done by the civilian authorities. The Cantonment in Hyderabad is in the middle of the city but yet the area does not have basic amenities like piped water and drainage. Hence, the state government is requested to extend water supply to Cantonment also as part of Mission Bhagiratha and solve the perennial water woes of its residents. Hope the Army does not object to these basic needs of the common people. Sunil Matthews Secunderabad
