D.K. Aruna said Mr Damodar Reddy was a strong leader in Nagarkurnool and it was not proper to have allowed Dr Janardhan Reddy to join the party without consulting him.

- DC CORRESPONDENT HYDERABAD, JUNE 7

Congress legislator D.K. Aruna on Thursday took a low dig at party newcomer Nagam Janardhan Reddy, saying “a strong leader need not be stout.” She was body-shaming Dr Janardhan Reddy to express her support for party MLC K. Damodar Reddy.

She said Mr Damodar Reddy was a strong leader in the Nagarkurnool Assembly constituency. She said Dr Janardhan Reddy may have been a strong leader in the TD but he was not so in the Congress.

There are speculations that Mr Damodar Reddy, who is opposing Dr Janardhan Reddy’s entry into the Congress, may join the TRS, Ms Aruna held discussions with him on Thursday at Mahbubnagar and to persuade him not to take a hasty decision.

Following this, Ms Aruna said if Dr Janardhan Reddy was a strong leader he need not have joined the Congress. She said Mr Damodar Reddy was a strong leader in Nagarkurnool and it was not proper to have allowed Dr Janardhan Reddy to join the party without consulting him. Ms Aruna said she would take the issue to the notice of AICC president Rahul Gandhi.

Ms Aruna said she had advised the TPCC to talk to Mr Damodar Reddy before allowing Dr Janardhan Reddy to join the party. “Without informing and discussing with Damodar Reddy, Nagam was admitted into the party,” she said and alleged that this was a political conspiracy to create trouble for her.

Ms Aruna said she was a sincere Congress worker and that she did not fear anyone. She said if anyone tried to demoralise her, the loss would be that of the Congress.
