Five NGO workers raped at gun point
Ranchi, June 22: Five women working with an NGO were allegedly raped at gunpoint by a group of at least five men when they had gone to Chochang village in Jharkhand to create awareness on migration and human trafficking, the police said on Friday.
Initial investigation has found that the people behind ‘Pathalgarhi’ (a practice in which villagers inscribe various tenets on huge stone slabs and ban outsiders in their area), are behind the incident in Khunti district on Tuesday, deputy inspector general of police Amol V. Homker said.
According to SP Ashwini Kumar Sinha, a 11-member team of an NGO went to the village to perform a street play on migration and human trafficking.

The three-member team would be led by under-secretary Preeti Kumar, who would travel to Khunti with a junior technical officer and a lawyer to take stock of the situation, said NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma.
Taking suo motu cognisance of the incident, Ms Sharma said the NCW has also written to Jharkhand director-general of police D.K. Pandey to probe the matter properly and has directed him to apprise the commission about action being taken in the matter at the earliest.
The 15-year-old girl had gone with her family members to attend an engagement ceremony. Two men, known to the victim, took her on their motorcycle on the pretext of visiting a nearby shrine.
