Two brothers, painters by profession, were electrocuted by a snapped cable during heavy rain in Nalgonda district early on Saturday morning.

Rain lashed the state on Saturday, and the weather is forecast to stay unchanged till July 11. The southwest monsoon is active over the state with districts like Nirmal, Adilabad, Ranga Reddy and Jagtial receiving excess rainfall.

The city received a heavy spell of rain, with areas like Falaknuma, Karwan, Saroornagar, Malakpet, Begumpet and Hayatnagar recording close to 3 cm of rain on Saturday.

The forecast for the city is generally cloudy skies with a couple of spells or rain or thundershowers.

The IMD’s forecast till July 11 said heavy to very heavy rain was likely to occur in all districts of the state, especially Adilabad, Nizamabad, Medak and Ranga Reddy districts along the Maharashtra border.

The rain is the result of a cyclonic circulation that has developed over interior Odisha, which has revived monsoon currents.

In the Nalgonda incident, that occurred at about 1.30 am, police said the victims P. Srinivas, 26, and Anand Kumar, 20, were sleeping in their house when a service wire broke and came in contact with a GI wire leading to the house.

When the brothers woke up and came out to check, another cable snapped and fell on Srinivas. Anand rushed to save him but was also electrocuted.
