HC PULLS UP COLLECTOR OVER EXPLOSIVE UNIT

The Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday directed the Sangareddy district collector to inform the court by Wednesday about the action being taken against Girdhari Explosives Pvt Ltd for indulging in alleged illegal explosions in Chillemamidi village of the district.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice Thottathil Bhaskaran Nair Radhakrishnan and Justice Ramesh Ranganathan, while dealing with a PIL by Mr S. Ramachandra Reddy, an advocate, pointed out as to why the collector is not taking action to close down the unit when even the Pollution Control Board had confirmed that company was unauthorisedly manufacturing the explosives. That apart, houses in 11 surrounding villages have also got damaged due to the illegal act.

The petitioner told the court that though they had lodged several complaints against the company since 2015, no action has been taken till date.

He urged the court to direct the authorities to pay damages of `15,000 per affected houses in Chillemamidi, Chinthalghat, Kothur, Ananthsagar, Edakupally, Zeerlapally, Chikkapally, Ginnarpally, Bodsepally, Ling-ampally and Edupally villages for the damages caused to their houses.

After perusing the report submitted by counsel for the Pollution Control Board wherein it was admitted that the explosives were illegal, the bench asked what the Task Force of the Board has been doing when the illegal activity was established.

The bench adjourned the case to Wednesday.
