The TRS on Sunday hits back at the BJP for its criticism that development of Hyderabad under Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s rule during the past four years was visible only on “computer graphics” and nothing concrete happened in reality.

The party’s city MLAs and MLCs asked the BJP leaders to explain why Prime Minister Narendra Modi had praised the GHMC and gave it `26 crore incentive on Saturday if there was no development in the city.

They accused the BJP of adopting a step-motherly attitude towards Hyderabad, pointing out that the Centre gave `17,000 crore to Bengaluru just before the recent Karnataka assembly elections but did not extend any financial assistance to Hyderabad.

They also condemned the remarks made by BJP city MLAs G. Kishan Reddy, NVSS Prabhakar and Chintala Ramachandra Reddy and MLC N. Ramachandra Rao who described Municipal Minister K.T. Rama Rao's recently released progress report on city’s development as a “bunch of lies”.

“Hyderabad was grossly neglected by the governments in undivided AP. They allowed illegal constructions and encroachment of roads, parks and canals, due to which the city is getting inundated even when there is a minor rain. After the TRS government took over in 2014, CM KCR and minister KTR have taken several measures to clear encroachments and ensure planned development to transform the city into a true global city. A new stormwater drainage system is being laid due to which roads are dug up, which is causing inconvenience to people. Our aim is to find a permanent solution to the problems faced by the residents and not to go for temporary or short-cut methods. Our efforts may take some time to complete but they will be provide long-lasting solutions to city's problems,” said the party's Qutbullapur MLA K.P. Vivekananda.

The legislator said the report released by Mr Rama Rao contained the initiatives being taken up by the TRS government for overall development of the city and contained facts. He accused BJP MLAs of resorting to malicious campaigns against the TRS as they are frustrated over party losing grip in city.

“BJP has only five MLAs in the state and all of them are from the city. Despite this, they could not ensure victory for even a single BJP corporator in 2016 GHMC elections. People trusted the commitment of the TRS in the city’s development and gave us a record majority of 99 seats. If the BJP MLAs were sincere, they would have convinced Prime Minister Narendra Modi to allocate more funds to the citys development,” Mr Vivekananda said.

TRS MLC Shambhipur Raju said Mr Rama Rao has been working day and night for the development of Hyderabad and the city acquired international fame only during the TRS regime.
