ILLEGAL SALE OF INJECTIONS RED FLAGGED

There are a range of estrogen hormonal injections which are available in the market but they are to be sold on prescription only. But doctors allege that there is illegal sale of these injections by the manufacturers and also the chemists in the state.

Estrogen injections are used in older women during pre-menopause stage.

Estrogen injections in medical practice are used in older women during pre-menopause stage, explained senior gynaecologist Dr Srilatha Gorthi.

However, cosmetic surgeons also use it in young girsl who come for breast enhancement treatment.

The Telangana State Medical Association has stated that the police must verify the qualifications of the doctor as no qualified doctor would indulge in giving these injections to children. Dr Swamy is still absconding and the police are on a look out for him.

Estrogen injections are sold from `500 to `1,000 per injection and are drugs to be sold only on prescription.

But the doctors allege that the misuse is there in the market and the police has stumbled on it from time to time but no one has been caught so far. The injections develop the reproductive organs of the young girls and they look older than their actual age.

The abuse of this prescription drug is rampant, said insiders. But most of them are operators who go underground for a few months when police action is taken.
