COLLEGES YET TO APPOINT COUNSELLORS

- DC CORRESPONDENT

Despite instructions by the TSBIE to appoint counsellors in every junior college and hostels of corporate colleges, Private Junior College and intermediate JAC alleged that counselors were not yet appointed.

After a series of suicides by students in junior corporate colleges, the board instructed college managements to employ professional counsellors to counsel the students regularly. The board also said that the counselling should be blended with fact finding exercises with the scope for development of remedial measures for the emotional and physical well being of the students.

Mr Madhusudhan Reddy, President-IntermediateJoint Action Committee (JAC) said, “No counsellors have been appointed by the junior corporate colleges nor are they following the instructions given by the board. None of the colleges have appointed professional counsellors due to which student suicides are still happening in the junior corporate colleges. The board should take strict action against these colleges for not following the norms.”

Mr Gouri Satish, Horonary President-Telangana private junior college management said, “The board instructed the colleges to deploy counsellors and laid down many other norms but the colleges are not following them. The best example is today the government declared a holiday but the corporate colleges are open. The academic year has just started and it’s the third suicide already because neither the board nor the government is taking action.”
