CCS, Hyderabad, police arrested a man from Mumbai for helping a Pakistani national by providing him with fake educational certificates on Friday.

Hyderabad police had previously arrested the Pakistani national, Mohd Usman Ikram, earlier this year for illegally entering the country and marrying an Indian woman by lying about his citizenship.

CCS additional DCP K.C.S. Raghuvir identified the man who had helped Ikram as Ramesh, a Mumbai resident. Ramesh was forging certificate for the Pakistani national and others from his small shop in a remote area in Mumbai.

Ikram, 41, was arrested on June 1 for illegally staying in India and marrying a local woman, claiming to be a citizen and threatening her with uploading obscene pictures of her 12-year-old daughter on the internet if she revealed his secret.

Ikram illegally entered India via Nepal, police said.

The victim met Ikram, a native of Mianwali, Pakistan, while she was working in Dubai and married him there after he claimed that he was a resident of Delhi.

She later discovered his identity. After she came back to India, he followed her here, said Mr Mohanty.

“The woman was married and had two children, including a 12-yearold girl who was secretly filmed by Usman. He sold the clipping to a man which eventually went viral. He also messaged a friend of the victim, stating that he will expose the girl’s nude photos to the public and tried to blackmail her,” he said.

Ikram used to torture her for money and beat her when she refused to pay, he said.

She then approached the police here, following booked Ikram and started investigations.

Mr Mohanty said Ikram had entered Nepal from Pakistan by air, from where he illegally crossed the border by road and arrived at Delhi and then Chaderghat of Hyderabad.

After arriving in India, he had created fake residential documents and education degrees through various agents and had been doing sundry jobs in private firms.

His antecedents and activities are further being verified, Mr Mohanty said.
