1,244 drunk drivers nabbed till mid-November

A total of 1244 drivers were found driving in Hyderabad under the influence of alcohol until mid-November. The police have registered cases of traffic violation and sent them to court.

The local courts have imprisoned as many as 280 violators.

In addition to this, 11 violators were jailed for using their cell phone while driving and driving without license.

Among the violators one person was imprisoned for two months — the highest — following which two people were jailed for 30 days.

A total 117 violators were imprisoned for two days. Teh 3rd and 4th Metropolit­an Magistrate Courts, Nampally, also cancelled the driving licenses permanentl­y of 10 members.

Also, the licenses of 61 violators have been suspended for a period of over a year.

Additional Commission­er of police (traffic) Anil Kumar said, “The violators who were caught and convicted while drunk driving may face difficulti­es in getting government jobs, passports and visa clearance”.

The violators who committed the offence were also counselled at TTI, Goshamahal and Begumpet.

The drive against drunken driving and other violations will continue for the safety of the commuters on road.
