- DC CORRESPONDENT

An interior designer from Bengaluru who duped three divorced women on the pretext of marriage and took money from them for his lavish expenses was arrested by the Rachakonda cyber crime police on Friday.

Rachakonda police said that the accused identified as Kanti Navalkishor Varma, 30, is a native of Rajasthan and a resident of Bengaluru.

At the age of 13, he ran away from Rajasthan to Mumbai and did odd jobs for livelihood. In 2006, he married a woman, who died after four years due to illness. After his wife’s demise, Varma moved to Bengaluru and worked at various interior designing companies.

“In 2017, Varma claims to have converted to another religion and changed his name as Emir Ajar Malik, however, it did not reflect in any of his identification cards. He created a profile on matrimony websites seeking a divorcee as a bride. He met three women through the matrimony sites and developed a relationship with them and later avoided them,” said Rachakonda cyber crime inspector D. Jalender Reddy.

The inspector said that the victims are from Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Chhattisgarh. The accused posed as the owner of an interior designing company and got in touch with the women. “The victim from Hyderabad has given Varma `90,000, which he failed to return and avoided her calls and messages,” said the inspector.

He said that Varma was booked under Sections 417, 419 and 420 of IPC and Section 66 (C&D) of IT Act, and produced before a court for judicial remand.
